Job Description

Research Associate I/II 

We are seeking a highly-motivated and proactive individual to join our R&D team as contract Research Associate focusing on EggPC mitochondria biology and supporting the core technology platform.  The successful applicant will participate in independent and collaborative product research efforts targeted at characterization of key process elements and development of novel products using cutting-edge technology. This position involves the usage of several different cellular, molecular, and biochemical techniques

Responsibilities

  • Isolate mitochondria or mitochondiral DNA from different tissue or cell types
  • Evaluate mtDNA quantity and mitochondria DNA mutation status using sequencing and/or PCR
  • Isolate EggPCs from primary tissue, establish and maintain the culture
  • Support general lab duties including but not limited to media preparation, tissue processing and cell line maintenance
  • Design and conduct experiments to characterize mitochondria functions including ATP production, oxidative phosphorylation, membrane potential, and other features 
    Determine mitochondria activity in oocytes and other cell types
  • Analyze experimental findings using statistical methods, database queries, and other tools 
    Record experimental designs, results, and conclusions in both electronic and paper format

Qualifications

  • MS/BS in cell or molecular biology or related field with 3+ years of industrial experience 
    Proficient in molecular biology techniques including DNA and RNA isolation, real time qPCR and ELISA
  • Prior experience in mitochondria biology and hands-on experience in mitochondria functional assays including, but not limited to, mitochondria membrane potential, proton leak, ATP production and oxophos activity, is highly preferred
  • Demonstrated ability to understand, apply, and evaluate cell biology, biochemistry and mathematical principles
  • Detail oriented and able to work collaboratively in a team-based environment
  • Strong technical writing and presentation skills, knowledge of research laboratory and safety guidelines
  • Ability to work in a multidisciplinary environment and display excellent organizational and communication skills
